About Us - Why We Started Common Good Coffee
Common Good Coffee was founded out of the simple desire to see truly good coffee be made common in America. “Good” to us mean ethical, sustainable, and full of unique and vibrant flavors.
Good should be Common
Common Good Coffee Roasters (CGC) was founded by childhood friends Patrick Neal and Ryan Beagley-Reiner in San Diego, ca in 2015. The inspiration came from the simple desire to see truly good coffee become more common and to make coffee that worked for the good of everyone involved.
“We looked around us and saw that so many of the smaller, owner-operated cafes and restaurants were selling coffee severely lacking in flavor and uniqueness, and coffee that was almost always over-roasted. On top of that, few people knew where their coffee came from and how the producers were compensated… I had been roasting at home and researching the coffee supply chain and thought, we can do this, let’s get these people better coffee.” - Ryan
Pat and Ryan had each done their time working for “big-brand” coffee as well as Specialty coffee and saw an opportunity to take something from both of those worlds. The vision was to provide the consumer-accessibility of corporate coffee with the transparency, ethics, and quality of specialty coffee. CGC’s vision for coffee looks like: roasters and baristas who openly share their coffee sourcing and knowledge, consumers who know the process behind what they are drinking, and coffee producers who are fairly compensated for providing the highest quality beans. Coffee for the Common Good.
CGC works with specialty coffee importers and cooperatives to source quality, flavorful, and traceable coffee, that exceeds specialty coffee standards and brings a smile to your face. We roast in small-batches and dedicate the time and attention required to bring out the beautiful and unique flavors of each coffee’s origin. We hope you love it.
Common Good Coffee is a philanthropically focused company that believes that good coffee should be good for everyone involved, from the farms its grown in to the community we as business owners, roasters, and barista's serve.
CGC supports various non-profits and initiatives that are making our world better and we would love to partner with you on a cause you care about- we can do a lot more when we do it together. Join us in this mission.
