This washed Excelso lot comes from coffee growers across Southern Huila, a region known for its exceptional cup profile. To create a delicious decaf without sacrificing flavor, the coffee undergoes Sugarcane Ethyl Acetate (EA) decaffeination at a specialized in-country facility.

EA, a natural compound derived from sugarcane fermentation, gently removes caffeine while preserving the coffee’s integrity. The process begins with light steaming to open the beans’ pores and remove the silver skin. The beans are then soaked in an EA and water solution, where the EA bonds with caffeine molecules for extraction.

Over 24 hours, 98-99% of the caffeine is removed. The extracted caffeine is repurposed for energy drinks and sodas, while the silver skin is used as a nutrient-rich fertilizer—nothing goes to waste!
